A travel vlogger has caused a stir on social media after he shared a video condemning the cleanliness and lifestyle in London. The clip, posted on Instagram, contains shots of public areas and transport hubs as the blogger challenges the impression many South Asians have of the British city.
The vlogger, named Maiharma, points out that people in Pakistan and India often glorify life in London, especially when their relatives living abroad brag about their daily routine. Her sarcastic and critical comments confirm that the reality on the streets and on public transport is very different from the lofty perception many people have of the British capital.
Viral clip sparks controversy around London
The video begins with the vlogger introducing the site with “This is London, baby” before warning viewers that some of the visuals may look unpleasant. Her voiceover claims that the video focuses on what she describes as common urban views. The blogger could be seen riding the subway, with people covering their mouths (apparently because of the bad smell).
Referring to the litter and unclean surroundings in some public areas, the blogger claimed that such scenes explain why there is a “bad smell everywhere in London”. Additionally, she anticipated potential criticism from viewers in the UK by implying that they would object to the existence of such conditions.
“I know these videos are very disgusting. But to understand the lifestyle of our relatives in London, it is very important to watch these videos… Now again, the people of the UK will come to send you the message that we don’t have anything like this,” the blogger says in the clip.
As she continues to compare the images to locations in South Asia, the vlogger sarcastically asks viewers if they think the clip was filmed near Bhatti Gate in Lahore and not in London. Such conditions, in her opinion, are “very common” in many stations and public places.

Vlogger criticizes the London Underground
Much of the vlogger’s commentary focuses on the city’s transport network, particularly the London Underground. She compares what she says are disorganized and chaotic scenes inside some train compartments with the general perception of subway trains. The video then shows a person urinating on the metro track, and no one comes forward to prevent this immoral act.
The vlogger claims that many people back home hear tales about traveling safely and easily on the Tube, and mock their relatives who often compliment the safety and convenience of London’s transport system.
The blogger added: “All these tunnels and stations, they all cause all this dirt on the roads. It is very common for people to stop in one place and sit there. Whether they are clean or not makes no difference to the British.”
It even drew comparisons between the experience and local transport alternatives in South Asia, implying that an auto-rickshaw ride would be more peaceful than crowded trains.
The video also shows streets filled with Indian clothing stores, to which the blogger says: “There is nothing left of London.”
How did the Internet react?
Many people were shocked by the clip. “I will never be able to sit on any public transport anywhere in the world again,” one person wrote.
Another compared how Delhi Metro was better and commented, “Oh my God….kya haal hai yeh…Delhi Metro is so clean and beautiful…All underground metro stations, Delhi Metro, Noida, Gurgaon Express and Namu Rapid Transit are wonderfully clean and safe….as are all 15 metro stations in India.”
One comment read: “As a Londoner, I confirm this.”
However, some people had the opposite point of view. One account read: “I visited London. London is beautiful and not what they make it out to be.”
As the debate rages over public transport in London, what are your thoughts on the video?
