Indian YouTuber Arun Panwar, who has 2.4 million subscribers, is facing public outrage after a video surfaced showing them receiving Rs 71 lakh in cash and 21 tolas of gold, allegedly given as ‘dhan’ but widely viewed as dowry.

This sparked widespread controversy online, with many calling it a clear example of dowry – a practice banned in India under the Dowry Prohibition Act of 1961. Reports suggest that Panwar earns between Rs 20-25 lakh a month from his YouTube channel, which has over 2.4 million subscribers.

Controversy revolves around the distinction between dan (gift) and dowry, with some insisting that the gifts were voluntary, while others condemn the practice as a deep-rooted social evil.

After the video went viral, many netizens criticized the practice and called for action against those involved. Many users note that classifying dowry as “dan” or “gifts” has long been a social solution, allowing the practice to continue while avoiding stigma.

“This disease is still prevalent in 2026 even among the elites. This inspires the lower class and they think they too deserve it. I’ve never seen any protests because this disease is ingrained in them and will be the reason why they won’t marry anymore,” one user wrote.

“If this video went viral, why haven’t the groom and his family been arrested yet?” The other added.

“Because it’s her culture. The unfortunate part is that his wife is a brilliant surgeon. If educated people like her are paving the way for such disgusting practices, there’s nothing to say. I hope he doesn’t torture her later to get more ‘gifts,'” a third person commented.

The YouTuber has yet to respond to the allegations.
