Managing expenses in Bengaluru has become a challenge for many working professionals, especially with rising rents, transportation costs and constant lifestyle spending. Amidst this, a man from Bengaluru shared some simple habits that helped him save money without making major compromises in his daily life.
The man, Akshay CN, shared the tips on Instagram through his page @bangalore_viral. In the video, he explained how small changes in routine and spending habits helped him reduce unnecessary expenses while maintaining a comfortable lifestyle in the city.
“How I cut down on my expenses in Bengaluru without ruining my lifestyle,” he wrote in the caption of the post.
Living near the metro helped him save
One of the biggest changes Akshay made was moving closer to the metro station instead of moving to a more expensive or trendy area. According to him, the rent initially seemed a little higher, but the decision ultimately saved him a lot of money and travel-related stress.
“I moved closer to the metro instead of choosing a ‘fancier’ area. The rent seemed a little higher at first, but I saved huge money and mental stress on the daily commute, gas and cars,” he wrote.
He explained that reducing travel time and transportation costs made a noticeable difference in his monthly spending.
Small purchases were quietly added
Akshay also pointed out that convenience spending is slowly becoming one of his biggest expenditures in Bengaluru. Things like express delivery services, frequent car trips, online subscriptions and small online purchases are starting to increase over time, he said.
“I stopped using convenience as an excuse for daily spending. Express deliveries, cars, subscriptions and ‘small’ online purchases have quietly become one of my biggest monthly expenses in Bengaluru,” he wrote.
Another habit that has helped him save money is planning his weekends in advance rather than at the last minute. According to him, random visits to cafes, outings to bars, and impulsive spending can quietly affect savings without people immediately realizing it.
“I have started planning weekends instead of spending haphazardly. Unplanned cafe and bar hopping and impulsive outings are destroying savings in Bengaluru faster than people realise,” he added.
He also talked about lifestyle pressure
In the video, Akshay also discussed the pressure that many people feel in Bengaluru’s work culture to constantly improve their lifestyle. He said he stopped buying new devices just because others around him were doing the same.
“I stopped upgrading gadgets just because everyone around me did. Bengaluru’s work culture can quietly create unnecessary lifestyle stress,” he wrote.
He further explained that many people spend money just to feel socially updated or to keep up with the trends around them. A
Another important change he made was to cook at home more often instead of relying on restaurants and food delivery every day. “It really changed my health and my savings,” he said.
Akshay ended the video by saying that getting a higher salary alone does not automatically solve financial problems. “I have learned that a higher salary alone does not solve financial problems. Better habits matter much more in Bengaluru,” he wrote.
The Internet is reacting to his advice
The video quickly sparked reactions from users online, many of whom said they related to the points he shared.
“Yes, that’s true,” one user commented. “I’ll do it too,” another wrote.
“Yes, I found them all very relevant,” one person said. The comment read: “I agree with you, brother.”
