Child safety tips: Children’s world is full of little happiness. Sometimes playing with friends in the area, sometimes going to a friend’s house and having fun for hours is an important part of their childhood. But in the changing times, it has also become important for parents to give freedom to their children and take care of their safety as well. Often children get into such situations while playing, where they do not understand the difference between right and wrong. In such a situation, if parents explain some important things to them beforehand, children can handle themselves better in difficult times.
According to parenting coach Pushpa Sharma, before sending children aged 9 to 12 years outside, they should be taught some safety habits. These things are not necessary to frighten children, but rather to make them aware and self-reliant.
Teach your child to tell you immediately if he or she feels uncomfortable
First of all, it is important to explain to children that if they do not like something, that is, someone’s action or behavior, then they should not hide it. Often children do not share their problems with their parents due to fear or hesitation. Tell them that if someone tries to touch them inappropriately, says something that makes them uncomfortable, or shows them something that makes them uncomfortable, to go home immediately and tell their parents. It is also important to reassure children that they will be heard and will not be reprimanded. This way they will be able to talk openly about any problem.
Don’t hide things like, “Don’t tell mom and dad.”
Often times, children accept someone’s words because of trust and relationships. In such a situation, it is important to explain to them that if someone says to them, “Don’t tell this to your parents,” the parents should be told everything immediately. Parents can explain to their children that there is nothing to hide in good relationships. If something is said to be hidden, it is important to provide information about it. Also tell children that they have a right to their body, and if someone makes them feel uncomfortable in any way, they should clearly say “no” and walk away.
If you find someone’s behavior wrong, share it immediately.
Often the danger does not come in the form of any major incident, but can start from someone’s strange behaviour, conversation or joke. Therefore, children should acquire the habit of not ignoring even small things. Parents can tell their children that if they find someone talking, any video, any joke or any wrong action, then tell them immediately without any fear. The child must feel that the parents will understand his feelings and that his safety is the first priority.
Refuse to go anywhere else without informing him
Many children, while playing with friends, suddenly go to the park, market or other place. They think that there is no big problem with this, but from a security point of view, this is not a good habit. Parents should clearly tell their children that if they go to a friend’s house to play and someone from there talks about taking them somewhere else, tell them first at home. This habit must be taught to children from a young age that it is not safe to go to a new place without telling them.
Don’t be afraid of children, talk to them as friends
Children’s safety is not only about setting rules, but also about building a strong relationship with them. If children trust their parents, they will be able to share their problems easily. Therefore, it is important that parents talk to their children from time to time, listen to them and make them understand that if they face any problem, they are not alone. The right lessons given at an early age help in making children safe and smart in the future.
