In a horrific incident that surfaced on social media from Brazil, a 21-year-old woman lost her life after she was launched from a bridge swing without a safety rope attached to her belt. The incident sparked outrage and the police opened an investigation into possible negligence.
The victim, identified as Maria Eduarda Rodriguez de Freitas, died after falling about 40 meters from a bridge at Ponte do Esquilito Road in Limeira, located in the Brazilian state of São Paulo.
A video clip of the incident showed Maria being carried by two workers on the bridge’s swing in a horizontal position before she was released. Moments after it was launched into the air, staff realized they had forgotten to attach a safety rope to it and were heard shouting: “The rope, people, the rope.”
According to eyewitnesses cited in local reports, staff at the adventure venue allegedly failed to attach a required safety rope to the woman’s belt before jumping. Authorities are examining whether safety protocols were ignored or followed incorrectly.
The police arrested 6 people in connection with the case
A few hours before the fatal accident, Maria reportedly made posts on her social media documenting her visit to the tourist attraction. It posted photos and videos from the site, including photos showing the bracelets and company representatives participating in the activity.
Authorities said six people were arrested in connection with the tourist spot following the incident. Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the tragedy and determine whether there are any other ulterior motives.

The viral video sparked widespread outrage online, with many wondering how they could have missed such an essential safety check.
One user said: “How did they forget? Isn’t that the whole point? And you didn’t protest at any point? This is suspicious.”
Another user stated: “The negligent staff responsible deserve to be fired and held fully responsible for their reckless incompetence that cost a precious life. This could have been prevented. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family.”

“All these people were watching, and no one said, ‘Wait, wait!’ or tried to stop them,” one person asked.
Another person said, “Unfortunately, it looks like she was posting on social media just minutes before the jump. She was probably distracted just by being eager to post online and take pictures. This is killing people. The rest must have been loud. Unbelievable.”
Meanwhile, one person commented: “It’s not a safety rope.” This means it is there just to be safe. This is literally a rope. That’s the whole reason she’s trying to do this. That’s the only requirement for this whole thing. You had one job. one. And he failed.”
