One employee claimed that his company began removing workers while blaming AI for the decision. Sharing his experience on Reddit, he said that senior employees are targeted first, and one or two people are allegedly asked to leave every day.

The post sparked an online debate, with many users advising him not to resign under pressure and to make sure every conversation with HR is documented.

Employee stock layoff concerns

“I’m getting laid off soon. I need advice,” the Reddit user posted under the caption. He claimed in the post that the company suddenly began reducing its workforce without warning.

“My company is firing a bunch of employees in the name of AI, and I strategically started laying off the most senior people on the team first. Every day, they pick one or two people to fire. There was absolutely no prior communication before making this decision,” he wrote.

According to the employee, the first warning sign came last month when salaries were late. He further alleged that instead of formally terminating the employees, the company began asking them to resign. The employee said that the human resources department informed the workers that their notice period would not begin until after they submitted their resignation.

However, he claimed that some senior staff, who were expected to give notice until August, have now been asked not to report to work after July 15. “This makes me feel like the same thing will eventually happen to everyone: they won’t pay us anymore, and won’t even let us complete our notice period,” he wrote.

The employee added that he had been looking for another job for the past month but had not received any calls for an interview. Although he has enough savings to cover his expenses for three to four months, he is worried about what will happen if he cannot find work before then. He also claimed that employees who work remotely are being asked to either move to another state and work from the office or quit.

According to him, the move will put additional financial pressure on him. He ended the post by asking for advice on how to talk to HR and whether there was any way to negotiate a severance package or delay his resignation.

Reddit users offer advice

The post sparked numerous responses from Reddit users, with many urging him not to make any hasty decisions. “I would say commit to moving. Ask for a month, but if they are adamant about not giving you that much time, try to find a PG as temporary housing. In the meantime, keep looking for a new job,” one user wrote.

Another commented: “Never resign under pressure. Have HR put everything in writing, including transfer requirements, notice period terms, and last day of work.”

“Don’t verbally agree to anything without emailing. If they want you to move, ask them to share the official policy, relocation assistance, and deadline in writing,” one person advised. Another added: “Buying time is important, but also keep applying aggressively.”
