A powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Philippines on Monday, killing at least 32 people and injuring more than 200 others. In the aftermath of the earthquake, many videos emerged showing the widespread destruction and people’s reaction to the shocks.
One video, in particular, received the most shares, where a grandmother was seen running to protect her grandson with her body.
In surveillance camera footage, the child can be seen sitting on the sofa when sudden tremors violently shook the house. At that time, his grandmother acted quickly. She was seen running into the house, grabbing her grandson, and trying to escape from the house. But the tremor restricted her and made her a shield for her grandson.

Authorities in the Philippines are assessing the impact of the earthquake, including damage to buildings, infrastructure and public facilities. Emergency teams have been deployed in the affected areas, while officials continue to monitor the possibility of aftershocks.
The Philippines is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the most seismically active regions in the world, and is frequently exposed to strong earthquakes due to the movement of tectonic plates beneath the archipelago.
