Heavy rains have left parts of Maharashtra submerged in water, making daily travel difficult for thousands of people. In Bhiwandi, a resident chose an unusual way to help people stranded on flooded roads by dressing up as one of the world’s most popular superheroes.
The man, called Shadab, dressed as Spider-Man and entered the flooded streets to manage traffic and clean up standing water. His efforts were captured on video, and have since received praise from many on social media.
Spider-Man steps in to help
“A local resident, Shadab, dressed as Spider-Man, helps with traffic amid waterlogging in Bhiwandi,” news agency ANI, which published the video, wrote.
The clip shows Shadab standing in the middle of flooded roads, directing vehicles through traffic and helping passengers move safely. He was also seen removing water from the streets to improve traffic flow.
Apart from directing vehicles, Shadab is seen interacting with people by exchanging greetings and shaking hands with passengers, many of whom expressed appreciation for his efforts.
Explains why he did it
Speaking to ANI, Shadab said he decided to act after noticing that civil authorities had not reached the area. He told the news agency, “I noticed that the municipal authorities did not come here to address the problem of accumulated water.”
He also explained why he chose to dress up as Spider-Man instead of regular clothes. “Inspired by the way Spider-Man helps people and saves lives in the movies, I decided to do the same in real life, helping others and removing standing water.”
Social media applauds the effort
The video received many reactions online, with many users expressing their appreciation for Shadab’s initiative while also making humorous references to the superhero.
“If this isn’t a rewarding side quest, I don’t know what is,” one user wrote. “Spider-Man: India Chapter,” another commented.
One person wrote: “People might call him crazy, but I call him a rare type. In an age where everyone is busy asking, ‘What’s in it for me?’, this guy seems to have completely skipped that chapter. Altruism may be in danger, but he’s doing a pretty good job of keeping it alive!”
Someone else joked: “Spider-Man – brand new day, same old problem.” The caption referred to the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is scheduled to be released on July 30.
