Instagram has rolled out a new photo-taking feature and a standalone app called Instants. It allows users to capture and share “uncut moments” that can only be viewed once with a select group of followers, according to reports. (Image: Pexels)

While the Instagram Stories feature allows users to post 24-hour photos or videos to their accounts, the Instants feature provides a temporary option to share photos without filters, text or stickers to their close or mutual friends. (Image: Pexels)

The Instants feature works similarly to Snapchat. Once another user opens and views an Instant Photo, it cannot be viewed again. (Image: Pexels)

How to turn off Moments?
– To disable the new instant messaging feature, users need to go to their profile and click on the three-line menu at the top right.
From there, they should scroll down to Content Preferences and toggle the Hide instant messages in inbox option.
– This will remove any trace of the instant messaging feature and any instant messages received. (Image: Pexels)

For those who don’t want to opt out completely, there’s the option to pause their reception by swiping directly on the pile of instant messages in their inbox. (Image: Pexels)

If a user accidentally shares a Moment, an “Undo” option will appear below the shutter button. This allows them to pull the photo before others see it. (Image: Pexels)

Alternatively, users can go to their archive by tapping the four-square icon at the top right of the camera and deleting a Moment. This will unsend it to friends who haven’t opened it yet. (Image: Pexels)
