Switch panel red light: There are many small things related to electricity in the home, which catch our attention, but we rarely think about the reason behind them. The small red or orange light that burns continuously on the keyboard is also similar. This light can be easily seen in the dim light of a room at night and people often consider it a normal part of the keyboard and move forward. Some people even feel that because it keeps burning for hours or all day, it will increase their electricity bill.
But is this really so? In fact, this little light gives an important signal about the home’s electricity supply and proves to be very useful in many situations.
Why does the red light on the keyboard light up?
This small light on the keyboard is usually an indicator light. Its simplest function is to find out whether or not electricity is present in the respective circuit or power source. This is why this light stays on even if the fan, lamp, TV or other appliances in the house are turned off. In fact, it is often connected to the mains power supply or electrical circuit related to the keyboard. Therefore, as long as power is available in that circuit, the indicator may also appear lit. This means that it is not correct to consider it as a light for any one device. In a way, this is a small visual cue that electricity exists.
This is not an ordinary bulb, it is an indicator
These lights in keyboards may be based on neon lights in older designs and LED technology in modern boards. Its size is small and the power consumption is also very low. This is why they can last for a long time and there is usually no need to change them frequently. Amid the daily hustle and bustle of the home, this little light comes in especially handy when the power suddenly goes out or comes back on. Even without turning on any device, you can get an idea whether the display is there or not.
Does red light increase your electricity bill?
This is the question that comes to most people’s minds. If the keyboard indicator light stays on day and night, does this increase power consumption? Generally its effect is very slight. These indicator lights consume very little power. Therefore, although it burns throughout the day, its contribution to the electricity bill remains much less. You don’t have to worry about a sudden spike in your electricity bill just because the red light on your keyboard is constantly on. Larger appliances generally consume more electricity. For example, a long-running air conditioner, heater, heater, or refrigerator uses more electricity. In such a case, the consumption of a small indicator light is much less in comparison.
Works even in homes with an inverter
In homes where an inverter is installed, an indicator light on the switchboard can be more useful. LEDs of different colors are installed in some switchboards, which helps to understand the difference between mains electricity and inverter supplies. Suppose there is a sudden power outage at home, and even after some time, a certain light on the keypad is still on. From this it can be concluded that the circuit in question is currently running on standby power. However, the arrangement of wires and indicators for each keyboard is not the same, so it would not be correct to draw a definite conclusion about the power supply based only on the color of the light.
Do not ignore changes in light behavior
If the indicator stays on normally and then suddenly turns off, it’s not necessarily a big problem every time. But if the socket stops working, the power goes out frequently or the switch makes any unusual noises, it’s best to have it checked. Likewise, if the indicator light remains on even after the switch is turned off, which has never happened before, there may be a possibility of a wiring or switch issue. In such cases, having the wires checked by a qualified electrician is a safer option rather than messing with the wires yourself.
Small light, but big work
Next time you see a red or orange light on your keyboard, don’t consider it just decoration. It indicates the presence of electricity in the home and sometimes helps in understanding the electrical system. Yes, their energy consumption is usually very low, so it is not right to worry about increasing your electricity bills. If the behavior of its lights suddenly changes, instead of ignoring it, the electrical system should be checked.
