A founder’s post on LinkedIn caught attention after a candidate rejected a job offer worth Rs 20 lakh per annum. The recruitment process lasted approximately three weeks and included multiple rounds of interviews. This issue arose because both sides had different ideas about salary from the beginning.

The founder said that the problem began due to lack of clear communication during recruitment. The salary details were not shared clearly in the job posting, which later caused confusion when making the offer.

The founder admits there was a communication gap about salary during recruitment

The post was shared on LinkedIn by founder Abhishek Agarwal. “One candidate rejected our offer of 20 LPA. It was entirely my fault. I forgot to mention the salary in the job description. Four rounds of interviews. Three weeks. All wasted,” he wrote in it.

He also said HR only described the role as a “competitive salary,” but did not initially give any specific number. According to him, the same job title can have completely different pay in different companies, so expectations can easily vary.

Salary expectations are conflicting after a long interview process

The founder shared that the candidate was expecting Rs 28 LPA, while the company was offering Rs 20 LPA. By the time the offer was made, both sides realized that the gap was too big to repair.

He added that job functions often focus more on roles and duties, while pay details are left out. He said this leads to confusion and long recruitment processes that end without results.

Social media users push for clear payment details early

Many netizens agreed that the salary should be shared early in the process. “Transparency saves everyone time, four rounds of mismatch is painful,” one user wrote. Another commented: “One line in the job description could have saved three weeks of effort for everyone involved.”

“Interesting perspective, and I agree that alignment early is important. However, I don’t think salary transparency alone solves the problem – expectations still vary widely based on experience, perceived value, and growth potential. Sometimes, keeping the conversation open in the beginning allows both sides to better understand the full picture before narrowing down the numbers.”

“I think salary transparency benefits everyone. Candidates can decide if an opportunity matches their expectations, and companies spend less time interviewing people they would never hire,” one comment read.

Some also shared that talking about wages at an early stage helps avoid such problems later. Others said clear salary information helps both sides decide faster if a job is a good fit or not.
