The man said that while he was joining, he was told that he would get 15 paid vacations a year, but when he decided to take them, his salary was deducted

Man shocked after Kochi-based company reduced his salary for approved leaves: ‘This was never explained’
A man who joined a company in Kochi, Kerala, in a management position, was shocked when they reduced his salary for approved leaves. He took to social media to share his ordeal with others and ask for advice on the bizarre politics, with others even saying: “This is definitely not normal.”
In a post on Reddit, the man revealed that he joined the Kochi-based company four months ago. He was offered a salary of Rs 18,000 per month for two months due to the probationary period. After completing it, he started receiving Rs 20,000. He claimed that he asked management about their leave policy at the time of his interview.
He said: “During the interview, I specifically asked about leave, and they told me that I would get 15 days off per year. This was also mentioned in my offer letter. During the probationary period, I took 3 days off and my salary was reduced. I assumed it was because I was still on probation. However, after completing the probation, I took leave again and noticed that my salary was still being reduced.”
The real shock came when HR informed him of their unusual policy of deducting salary for vacations and then compensating them at the end of the year. He said: “When I asked the HR department about it, they said that this is how their company works. According to them, employees get 15 days of annual leave, but whenever we take leave, the salary is deducted. At the end of the year, they calculate the total leave they took and pay this amount separately.”
The man continued: “This system was never explained during the interview or when I joined. If I had known, I would have thought about it differently.” He added: “I told them that a salary deduction would only make sense if I exceeded the 15 days of annual leave, but they are not ready to change positions. Also, even when I am on leave, I am often expected to take on work responsibilities, but there is no consideration for that.”
The Internet asks him to find a better job
Then he turned to the Internet for help. “What should I do in this situation? Should I request the policy in writing, formally raise the issue with HR, or start looking for another job? Any advice would be appreciated,” he said.
Many were quick to rush to share their advice on the issue, with one saying: “This is not normal at all in my experience. I don’t think you’ll get a refund either. It looks suspicious. Check your contract and see if it’s in writing. Contracts usually mention holidays.”
“Earned vacations, or any other vacations mandated by labor law, are and should be paid. This has no legal meaning, and will not be subject to legal scrutiny. Someone else suggested. Please consider finding a better job.”
Another person commented: “This may be illegal, you can consult your local labor office.”
