An emotional post shared by a Microsoft director in Bengaluru has gone viral on social media after he shared the heartwarming experience of taking his 81-year-old grandmother to his office for the first time.

Describing the moment as “bigger than any promotion,” Vyankesh Bajaj, a senior manager at Microsoft, shared the story on LinkedIn, reflecting on his journey from a small town in Maharashtra to the corridors of one of the world’s largest technology companies.

He said that the visit became one of the most important moments in his life, not because of his position or his achievements, but because he was able to see his success through his grandmother’s eyes.

Bajaj revealed in his post that he grew up in Mangrulbir, a remote town in Maharashtra where exposure to the corporate world was almost non-existent. He remembers how as a child he would look at towering glass office buildings on television and dream of one day working in such an environment.

More than a decade later, he found himself walking with his 81-year-old grandmother across Microsoft’s Bengaluru campus, an experience that held deep emotional significance for him and his family.

According to Bajaj, this was the first time his grandmother had seen the interior of a modern corporate office. She observed everything around her with amazement and curiosity, from the scale of operations and technology to the collaborative work culture, he said.

“She kept asking me: ‘How does work work on such a massive scale here?’” he wrote, recalling her exclamation during the visit.

Bajaj also spoke about how he has always admired his grandmother’s outlook on life. Although she had no formal education, she remained progressive in her thinking and possessed wisdom that came from life experiences rather than the classroom.

“As I showed her around, I realized that this moment was so much more than a simple office visit. It felt like generations of sacrifices were quietly coming full circle,” he said.

The emotional climax of the visit came when his grandmother looked at him and said: “You are doing a very useful job.”

For Bajaj, those few words are beyond professional judgement. The sentence seemed “bigger than any promotion, title or award,” he wrote, adding that he “felt a little taller” that day because he experienced his accomplishments from her perspective.

The touching story quickly gained attention online, with users flooding the comments section with heartfelt reactions.

“There is no feeling that comes close to seeing the pride in our parents’ eyes. So good that you brought your mom to our campus!,” one user wrote. Cherish this moment and thank you for sharing this experience.”

“I’m happy to see this and hats off to you for taking her to your workplace! I can imagine the joy this would have brought her!! God bless!” commented another.

A third user said: “A truly beautiful moment of pride, love and future generations together ❤️”

Another comment highlighted Bajaj’s roots and family legacy. “This is a wonderful man… I have to tell people that he comes from a rural place, the district is the second most backward district in Maharashtra.

But more importantly, his grandfather received the Progressive Farmer Award from Javaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India. I’d say VB carries on that legacy well…” the user wrote.

“This looks so healthy 😊,” another person commented.
