Conducting several rounds of interviews usually gives candidates hope that an offer is close. But for one job seeker, the hiring process came to a screeching halt just when things seemed to be going in the right direction.

The candidate shared their experience on Reddit, saying the company provided positive feedback, discussed salary and notice period, and even mentioned that they only had one final interview left. Then the connection stopped.

The final interview never happened

The Reddit post was titled “Ghost after 5 rounds and positive feedback. What gives?” According to the job seeker, they made it through five rounds of interviews without any problems and received encouraging comments throughout the process.

Describing what happened, the user wrote, “I sailed through five rounds of interviews, got great feedback, and also discussed the notice period and salary with HR. They said only the GM round is left.”

The candidate expected that the last meeting with the company’s general manager would be the last step before making the decision. Instead, the interview was scheduled twice and canceled both times. After waiting for two days without hearing anything, the applicant contacted the HR team for an update.

The user explained: “After two days of complete silence, I asked for an update. HR said there was no update yet and that they would inform me once the interview was rescheduled. It’s been a full week since my last face-to-face interview, and I’m still in the dark.”

The uncertainty left the candidate wondering whether to keep waiting or move forward. The user added: “Honestly, I don’t know what to do. Should I keep waiting, or just cut my losses? This silence is killing me. I really wanted this job, and after excelling in so many rounds, I thought I would at least have some clarity now.”

Others share similar experiences

The post quickly attracted responses from people who had been through similar situations while hiring.

One Reddit user suggested that a delay involving senior executives is not unusual. “It is fairly common to reschedule interviews with someone at the GM level. I would suggest continuing to explore other opportunities, but they should come back with a new GM interview date,” that person wrote.

Another user said they went through something similar, but with a positive ending. “Something similar happened to me, but the outcome was positive. I completed all technical interviews. My last interview with an executive on the scheduled day was canceled. HR called later to tell me they were moving forward with my application, and I received the offer the following week.”

The original poster did not share whether the company eventually returned with the update. However, many job seekers said they experienced similar delays, and agreed that long periods of silence after multiple interview rounds can be frustrating and stressful.
