For many couples, IVF offers hope after years of trying to have children. This procedure has helped countless families achieve their dream of becoming parents. But the Gurugram case has now raised serious questions about the safeguards in place at fertility clinics.

The incident concerns a couple who claim that DNA tests revealed that the twins they had through artificial insemination shared no biological connection to either parent. As details of the case spread online, social media users expressed shock, sympathy and concern at how such an alleged mix-up could have occurred.

Couple claims DNA testing revealed a mismatch

According to reports, the couple welcomed twins through artificial insemination and only discovered the problem months later during a medical evaluation related to minor health concerns. The tests reportedly prompted doctors to recommend detailed genetic profiling.

The DNA results allegedly showed that neither parent was biologically related to the children. The family claimed that the IVF center may have implanted embryos belonging to another couple or that there had been a mix-up after the birth.

As reported by the Times of India, the children’s father, Rahul Rathore, said: “The younger child looks north-eastern.” His wife added: “Where are our children? We went there to have our children.”

The couple also claimed that they repeatedly approached the IVF center for answers and requested access to medical records and internal documents, but did not receive a response.

The legal battle is now underway

Reports suggest that the couple initially tried to file an FIR, but there was a delay of about three months. Then they went to court.

Rahul Rathore also claimed that despite the June 5 court order ordering the police to seize important documents related to IVF from the centre, no action has been taken so far. The case is currently under investigation.

Social media is reacting with concern

As the story gained attention online, many users focused on the emotional impact such a situation can have on parents who have already gone through the physical, emotional and financial challenges of IVF treatment.

One user wrote: “The IVF center should take responsibility. But this couple’s pain is irreplaceable.”

Another person questioned the decision to conduct a DNA test, and commented: “Why did they do the test in the first place? You have a child, be happy, raise him well.”

Some users also pointed out the importance of following proper protocols at fertility clinics. “It might be the IVF men’s fault. They might have used different eggs and sperm. Everyone should check if they are compatible with ART or not,” one comment read.

Others highlighted the emotional impact such incidents can have on families. One user said: “It’s a nightmare for parents to have such an experience after going through so much struggle.”

Another comment turned the discussion toward broader concerns about infertility treatment, saying: “IVF, since the last 20 years, these hospitals have been growing at an alarming rate… Unhealthy lifestyle is the ultimate cause of infertility.”
