A traveler’s shocking revelation that he earned INR 1.5 lakh from traffic almost a year after he returned home from an international trip has gone viral on the internet. The post was shared on X by a user named Poan Sapdi, who revealed that he received a traffic ticket several months after returning from a vacation in Switzerland.
What surprised many online was not only the delay in receiving the notice, but also the huge amount involved. Sharing her experience, she wrote: “Has anyone here gotten a traffic ticket from Switzerland months after returning from vacation?
We have just received a payment of around Rs 1 lakh, almost a year into our trip. “We’re trying to understand if there’s any way to appeal, reduce or waive it.”

In a later comment, she asked for advice from fellow travelers and netizens, writing: “I would love to hear from anyone who has dealt with something similar or knows the process. Any help would be greatly appreciated.”
The post quickly gained traction on the platform, garnering more than 1.1 million views and nearly 2,800 likes. Hundreds of users joined the conversation, sharing their own experiences with traffic tickets received long after they returned from international trips.
One user recalled a similar incident, saying: “I got one from Germany once after a $10,000 trip. Paid. But $100,000 is crazy.” Responding to the comment, Poan Sapdi revealed that the actual amount was higher than he initially thought. “We just realized it’s more than that, 1.5 million in total,” she wrote.
Another user shared a related concern, commenting, “Pata chale toh Batana pls – we have almost 12-15k from Italy – unable to pay because I don’t know how to pay.”

The discussion also sparked strong opinions from some users. One person wrote: “If you commit a traffic violation, pay it and move on. Don’t try to bribe or beg like you do in India.”
Others offered practical advice based on their experiences. “You have 30 days to appeal, I don’t think you can appeal it after that. Pay or you will have a hard time crossing the border legally next time. I also only paid 40CHZ after 6 months,” one commenter said.
Another user explained that such delays are not uncommon in Europe, especially when violations are recorded by traffic cameras. “It could be due to violations caught on camera. Tickets can be issued even months later. If you don’t plan to visit Switzerland again, don’t worry about it. Otherwise, if you don’t pay the fine and visit again, you won’t be able to rent a car or drive or you could be arrested as well,” the user wrote.

Many travelers also shared their own experiences with fines abroad. One user commented: “Yes, we did it, from Iceland (40k) and Turkey (22k) 😭 We did our best, asked for evidence and got all the details along with videos and photos (sometimes it was about speeding and/or parking in a non-parking zone unconsciously). I couldn’t help it, I had to pay😅”
Another highlighted Switzerland’s tough stance on traffic offences, especially speeding offences. The user wrote: “😂😂😂😂. Otherwise pay it, you will never get a Schengen visa again. Switzerland is one of the countries that takes speeding violations seriously.”
