A group of Indian women have received widespread praise online after confronting a waiter at a restaurant in Italy over alleged derogatory remarks about India and Indian customers. The incident, which was captured on video, shows a waiter at an Italian restaurant allegedly making offensive comments about India.

The clip, originally shared by Instagram user ‘@khushicupcake5’, appears to show a tense exchange between a waiter and a group of Indian tourists. According to the women in the video, the waiter allegedly made offensive comments about India and referred to them as being from “fucking India.”

While the full context and circumstances that led to the confrontation cannot be independently verified, the video shows the women challenging these statements and demanding an apology. Throughout the conversation, they repeatedly insist that disrespectful comments about their country are unacceptable and ask the waiter to acknowledge his remarks.

As the confrontation continues, the waiter appears to apologize after the police intervene. The women then asked him to specifically apologize for allegedly insulting India. In the video, he is heard saying: “I’m sorry for mistreating India,” before the exchange eventually calms down.

Social media supports tourists

The video has since gained significant traction across social media platforms, with many users praising the women for standing up against what they saw as discriminatory and anti-India statements.

Many commentators also praised the women’s steadfastness during the confrontation and their insistence on being held accountable rather than walking away from the incident.

While some users pointed out that while disagreements can arise in customer service environments, comments targeting a person’s nationality or country have the potential to escalate tensions and create uncomfortable situations.

Some also stressed the need for social media users to avoid drawing conclusions beyond what is shown in the video, as the full sequence of events that preceded the confrontation is still unclear.
