What started as a normal Supreme Court hearing on Friday quickly turned into a spectacle that few in the courtroom were expecting. During a hearing before a bench of Justices KV Viswanathan and Justice Alok Aradhe, one of the petitioners who appeared in person allegedly disrupted the proceedings, challenged the judges, threw documents in the courtroom and used abusive language, forcing security personnel to escort him out.
According to reports, the confrontation began when the petitioner made an unusual presentation to the bench.
“Mr. Judicial Officer. I order you to order the registration of an FIR against ACP… Lucknow.”
This comment immediately elicited a response from Justice Viswanathan.
“You order me? You order us?”
The petitioner is said to have replied:
“That’s all from my side. It’s all on record.”
Moments later, papers were allegedly thrown in the air, offensive remarks were made, and the session briefly descended into chaos before security intervened.
What surprised many observers was the court’s response. Despite the obstruction, the court chose not to initiate contempt proceedings. “We do not propose to take any action against him. As for the merits of the case, we have perused the records and do not find any good reasons to interfere in the impugned order. The special leave petition has been dismissed,” Justice Viswanathan said.
As details of the incident spread online, social media quickly filled with comments, memes and heated discussions.
