‘Hum Desi Hi Rahenge’: People seen sleeping in cement seating areas at Bengaluru International Airport

A video from Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport that went viral has made people wonder: “Airport or railway station?” The clip, originally posted on Instagram by a digital content creator named Afrin Ahmadi, sparked a discussion about general behavior at airports and the lack of comfortable resting places for travelers waiting for their flights.

The viral video begins by showing the stunning interiors of Terminal 2, often referred to as one of the most beautiful airports in the country. The station has gained appreciation for its nature-inspired decor. The first few seconds of the clip captured the aesthetics of the building, which includes lush greenery, hanging plants, bamboo installations, fountains and open spaces that give the airport a sense of calm.

The situation quickly took another turn. The video then moves to the departure area, where several passengers are seen reclining on cement seat frames and resting with their heads resting on suitcases and backpacks. Some were also seen lying under the shade of trees. “Tum Jitna bhi International Airportbanwalo, Hum toh desi hi Rahenge (No matter how international the airport is built, we will still be desi),” reads the text in the clip, which humorously contrasts the airport’s world-class aesthetics with the scenes inside the waiting area.

In the caption of the post, the creator explained, “Bas desi ha hum….Airport jaisa bhi ho….no one’s face has been revealed…so stop guessing religion…and throwing your dirty thoughts in my comment section!!”

Internet says: “I saw this in Changi, Kuala Lumpur and Incheon”

The video has since attracted attention online, with many discussing passenger behavior and the lack of restroom facilities at airports.

“Getting tickets worth INR 6-7 lakh and sleeping on the floor like labourers. Such low behaviour,” one user said.

Another quipped: “There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s called lack of civic sense.”

Meanwhile, one individual commented: “You are building airports with international standards, yes. Do we have waiting areas? Do we have resting places for transit passengers? We all have to sit in those uncomfortable chairs for elderly, differently abled children. Don’t question the system, always blame the victim.”

“Have you been outside India?… There are also people sleeping at the airport during long repairs. They also sleep on the floor inside the airport but let’s make fun of the people who care and look cool,” another person shared.

One person commented: “Stop this Indian hate, air travel is so stressful – I’ve seen this in Changi, Kuala Lumpur, Incheon too. Maybe not everyone has a CC card for lounge access, and airports are probably crowded! They are resting in peace – leave them alone!!!”

Another person said, “Etna Picard” Seating arrangement, what do you expect people to do? “This also happens at international airports as well, especially in Europe.”
