An influential figure in Nagaland has admitted that his viral claim of sending 150 cheeseburst pizzas to protesting students at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar was fabricated, and issued a public apology after the fake Domino’s Bill sparked widespread attention and debate on social media.
The influencer, whose screenshots of the alleged Domino’s order were widely circulated on Instagram, claimed that he ordered 150 pizzas to support students participating in the CJP protest. The alleged order, which went viral, showed an invoice worth INR 67,734.18 lakh and was widely praised online as a generous gesture of solidarity.
However, the influencer has now clarified that the bill was not real and that the post was intended to encourage others to support the protesting students through acts of kindness.
In a lengthy Instagram story, he acknowledged that sharing the fabricated bill had caused confusion and accepted responsibility for the backlash.
“To everyone affected by the recent controversy, I would like to offer an explanation and a sincere apology,” he wrote.
“The pizza bill I shared was not an actual bill. It was posted with the intention of encouraging people to support the student protest and inspiring acts of kindness. Looking back, I understand that presenting it in this way caused confusion and led many people to believe it was real. For this reason, I take full responsibility and sincerely apologize.”
He further stated that he never intended to “mislead anyone, damage anyone’s reputation, or cause unnecessary controversy,” adding that he now understands that “good intentions do not justify creating or sharing misleading material.”
Speaking about the donations collected through the QR code shared alongside the post, the influencer claimed that the money was always intended for the protesting students. According to him, more than Rs 12,000 has been collected so far. He also stated that he had sent INR 25,000 through a friend to buy biscuits for the students and said he had proof of the transaction.
He assured his followers that the remaining funds would also be spent transparently and evidence of those expenditures would be shared.
The influencer also explained that although his original post was later reshared by several large social media pages without his permission, he accepted full responsibility for creating and sharing the misleading content in the first place.
The post shared by an Instagram user named @newsxnagaland gained traction online and people started commenting on it.
“How do I go back and delete all those good comments I wrote about him 😂,” one user said.
“It made national news. How embarrassing for our country!!!” another wrote.
A third user commented: “Imagine knowing the whole thing is fake… and you still reply, thanks for every comment that calls you a hero. Trust deserves its own award.”
Another commented: “Not all heroes wear capes, some wear stimulus bills 💵😂.”
Questioning the donation drive, one user wrote, “Let’s not forget he was trying to receive donations too!! Clearly the dude was trying to scam people. His banking name shows ‘Delhi Dienu’. This issue needs to be taken seriously.”
Another frustrated user commented, “Nagaland is being slandered on all social media platforms and I want to slap myself for defending it too🤡.”
