An incident has come to light in India’s startup world, sparking a new debate on jobs, leadership and ‘ownership’. InstaAstro founder and CEO Nitin Verma himself revealed that he fired a senior employee simply because he asked him.. “Sir, what do you do next?” This incident is now becoming increasingly viral on social media and people are giving different opinions about it.
“I fired him from his job.”
Nitin Verma wrote in a LinkedIn post that he hired this employee specifically so he wouldn’t have to think about this job. But when the same senior employee started asking him for guidance over and over again, he felt like he lacked “ownership.” When the employee said, “Sir, you know best,” Verma said, he replied, “Then why did I hire you?” Then the conversation ended in silence and he deleted it.
CEO thinking regarding ownership
After this incident, Nitin Verma also shared his management philosophy. He says that “ownership” cannot be taught, but must already be within the person. According to him, if someone is given complete freedom but does not take initiative on his own, then that freedom also becomes confusion. He clearly said: “Liberty without property is mere confusion.”
What is the message to senior professionals?
Especially regarding high-level employees, Verma said it is their responsibility to decide for themselves what to do every day. It is believed that seniority means not only experience, but also the ability to make decisions on one’s own. He said he couldn’t build a company with a team that was told everything about what to think and what to do.

Opinions were divided on social media
There has been a heated debate about this whole issue on social media. Some people justify the CEO’s decision and say that people in high positions should have the ability to work on their own. Meanwhile, many users call it a “toxic work culture” and say asking for guidance is not wrong. Overall, this problem has now turned into a larger question: Is ownership or teamwork and direction more important in today’s workplace?
