British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott recently shared a motorbike ride with British-Pakistani biker Gul Tariq, who made history by traveling solo from London to Lahore. The journey took 56 days and covered several countries in Europe and Asia before ending in Pakistan.
Marriott posted a video of the trip on X (formerly Twitter), where the two women are seen enjoying the experience. The clip quickly caught attention online, with many praising Tariq for completing this long and difficult journey alone.
The journey started in Manchester
The video begins with Jane Marriott sitting behind Gul Tariq on the bike. “Go faster. Go faster. This is a lot of fun,” Marriott says, laughing during the ride.
As the conversation continues, Marriott asks Tariq about her trip. Tariq explains that the journey took 56 days. She said she first traveled from Manchester to London before crossing the English Channel to France.
From there, it passed through Switzerland and Italy, crossing the Alps along the way.
Tariq also shared that she felt a personal connection while traveling through Greece because of her roots in Pakistan’s Sargodha region and her historical ties to Alexander the Great.
Women bikers helped her journey
Tariq said that she met another motorcyclist in Bulgaria before entering Türkiye. She explained that female motorcyclists from different countries helped and hosted her during the trip.
Marriott seemed surprised and excited when she asked, “Is there a biker community?” Tariq replied: “Yes.” “I love this,” Marriott said.
Tariq also revealed that she is working on a book focusing on female bikers and wanted to meet female bikers during her travels. She added that traveling with heavy luggage while following a vegetarian diet made the trip more difficult.
Pakistan welcomed her warmly
Tariq said she was deeply touched by the response she received after entering Pakistan.
According to her, people from Karachi to Lahore welcomed her warmly, with strangers gathering on the roads carrying flowers and rose petals. She also stated that around 80 women bikers joined and supported her during different parts of the journey.
Marriott then asked her if she planned to continue traveling the world. Tariq replied: “Yes, slowly, slowly, but I definitely need to finish the trip.”
Many praised her achievement
Marriott’s post described Gul Tariq as a “pioneering British-Pakistani motorcyclist” and highlighted her achievement as the first woman to complete the route from London to Lahore solo on a bike.
Many people online reportedly praised Tariq’s determination and described her journey as inspiring for women interested in adventure travel and motorcycling.
According to Pakistan Today, her journey is also seen as an important moment for bikers, especially within the British-Pakistani community, with supporters saying her achievement could encourage more women to explore such fields with confidence.
