A star once said “CM” out loud. The country that made Jayalalithaa its queen. As comparisons pour in, the real question is not whether Trisha can do it or not, but when will Tamil Nadu be ready. (X)

A two-decade-old video has become the latest political storm in Tamil Nadu. As actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) series shakes things up in the state, social media is abuzz with an old clip of actress Trisha Krishnan joking about her dream of becoming chief minister. Now, fans and cynics alike are wondering: Was this really a joke or a prophecy waiting to unfold?

The resurfacing of the 2004 interview, coupled with Trisha’s apparent friendship with new politician Vijay, has reignited one of Tamil Nadu’s favorite debates: the intersection of cinema and politics.

Just as MG Ramachandran (MGR) and Jayalalithaa moved from the silver screen to Fort St. George, many are wondering if Trisha could be the next in that breed of actor leaders.

Why was Trisha suddenly compared to Jayalalithaa?

The Jayalalithaa-Trisha comparison comes down to optics and timing. Jayalalithaa, like Trisha, started out as a beloved actress in Tamil cinema, often paired with leading man MGR. Their on-screen chemistry slowly turned into an enduring political partnership that shaped the fate of Tamil Nadu for decades.

Likewise, Trisha has shared the screen (and gossip columns) with actor Vijay several times – in hit films like My generation, Thiruppachi, Korovy, AthiAnd the last one Leo.

Now that Vijay has founded his political group TVK and made a strong electoral debut, speculation has naturally drifted towards the possible political role of his long-time star.

Sparking conversations, a 2004 Sun TV interview – now viral on

When pressed about her plans if she became Prime Minister, she joked: “First, vote and elect me, then I’ll tell you!”

This playful remark has now been reinterpreted as a possible hint of ambition – especially with Vijay’s party’s rise in the 2026 Assembly elections.

What has sparked the renewed buzz?

The timing was impeccable. Just as TVK crossed the halfway mark in early May 2026, Trisha visited Vijay’s house in Chennai on her 43rd birthday, sparking a media frenzy. Footage of her smiling and waving outside his house was circulated hours after the old “CM dream” video surfaced.

X broke soon after:

• @iamKarthik3yan wrote, “TVK’s future CM candidate will be Trisha! 🥳🥳🥳”

• @gnsekharji added: “So… Trisha will become PM in the future!! Mark my words!”

• @Dear_Men_Life commented, “This video is from 2004 when Trisha wanted to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Vijay has just won – both professionally and personally.”

• @georajakiyam speculated, “The whole thing about Vijay and Trisha was set up by the deep state. Trisha will be the PM in future.”

Even astrologers contributed to this. @AstroSharmistha said her Tamil Nadu election predictions missed ‘Vijay’s rise’, to which @siv_ramkrish replied: ‘Ma’am, please study actress Trisha’s chart too – looks like she will play a role in the future.’

Has Trisha shown any real political intentions?

As of now, Trisha has not publicly announced any political plans or affiliations. However, multiple reports indicated that she spoke about public service and social issues, saying that politics can be “an effective way to work for people.”

Trisha has occasionally expressed opinions on gender equality and women’s safety, but has stayed away from direct political commentary.

Her recent statement rebuking BJP leader Nainar Nageenthiran for linking her name with Vijay during the TVK campaign was seen by some as an assertion of independence rather than a hint at political ambitions.

So far, her involvement in politics seems to be a coincidence, rather than intentional – a byproduct of Vijay’s political boom and the media’s fascination with the actor-politician pairing.

Can Trisha realistically become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu?

Scenario 1: If she joins Vijay’s TVK channel

If Trisha officially joins TVK, she will instantly become one of its most popular faces. As a prominent figure with deep public affection and a clean personal image, she can act as a bridge between entertainment and politics, especially in attracting women and young voters. In five to ten years, if TVK settles in as a major player, Trisha could emerge as a star in the campaign or a token successor to Vijay – mirroring how Jayalalithaa rose after MGR’s death.

The second scenario: independent political entry

Trisha can also chart an independent path, forming a movement centered around women or social reform. But without party infrastructure, financial support, or experienced advisors, the odds are slim. Voters in Tamil Nadu value charismatic leaders, but they must be backed by a strong organizational machine – something that representatives from smaller parties like Seeman (Nam Tamilar Katchi) have fought for.

Scenario 3: Token Prime Minister or coalition figure

In a split electoral outcome, a well-known cultural figure like Trisha could become a token compromise candidate – a media-friendly face that unites factions. The probability is low now, but not impossible if alliances shift radically by the 2031 election cycle.
