Vijay and his party, Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), made a strong debut in Tamil Nadu politics by defeating the decades-old DMK government in the state. This state has been considered a bastion of Dravidian politics for more than 50 years. When Vijay launched TVK in 2024, there was speculation that he might contest the 2026 Assembly elections. Seven months later, his hit film ‘The Greatest of All Time (GOT)’ was a box office hit, almost but not explicitly hinting that he would become chief minister.

A short video clip from the same film is going viral on social media these days, where Vijay is seen driving a car with registration number TN 07 CM 2026 (TN stands for Tamil Nadu and CM means Chief Minister), leading to speculations among fans, who believe that this was a hint at his plan to become the Chief Minister in 2026, which he presented in his film itself. Later, Vijay Premji’s co-star Amaren also reportedly hinted at the TVK chief’s entry into politics. “I will vote for him in 2026. I guarantee you that Vijay will become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 2026, stay tuned,” he reportedly said.

With Amaran’s words proving true, Vijay will become the first actor-turned-politician to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Although his party did not obtain a majority, it emerged as the largest party in the state in these House elections. With 108 seats, the party is only 10 short, raising speculation of an alliance.
