QuanQuan was taken to the animal hospital for a minor eye/nose issue, where he was scheduled to undergo minor surgery using light anesthesia. But he died during the operation, which led to controversy over the whole matter.

The owner, Ding Feng, claimed that Quanquan died due to the negligence of doctors. They say that after anesthesia, the cat was not monitored properly, which resulted in a cardiac arrest on the operating table itself. The hospital initially denied responsibility, and then the matter went to court. Amid mounting pressure, the hospital finally agreed to pay compensation of 3,000 yuan. The doctor concerned was also discharged and the hospital was closed for 15 days. To restore confidence, the hospital also announced free sterilization of 1,100 stray cats.
